So how was International Women's Day for you?
The Women's Resource Centre team was out in force, supporting the Million Women Rise march in central London. We reported live via Twitter, we've blogged about it here and uploaded our photos here. You can also see a great video here (but it's not ours).
Events for International Women's Day are continuing throughout March. You can see listings on the International Women's Day website and the Women in London site.

Maternity rights for women from abroad
Maternity Action has produced a set of information sheets on maternity rights for women from abroad. They cover employment rights, benefits, tax credits, UK Border Agency support and entitlement to free NHS care.
There are information sheets for asylum seekers, refugees, refused (failed) asylum seekers, European nationals, women with no recourse to public funds, women with indefinite leave to remain, and undocumented migrants.

Media training for equality groups
The National Equality Partnership (based at the Women's Resource Centre) is running training with the Media Trust for equality groups on dealing with the media.
Dealing with the media can be a major challenge for equality groups, including many women's organisations, and this course will give you the skills and understanding to approach this area with confidence.
The training will take place in London on 24 March. Read more...

Campaigning to give local residents choice over lapdancing clubs
The government has pledged to tackle the inadequate licensing of lap dancing clubs via reforms contained in the Policing and Crime Bill, but Object and the Fawcett Society say these changes will not go far enough. The reforms will be optional and won't apply to venues holding lap dancing nights less than once a month.

Why is the UN failing women?
VSO is calling on the United Nations to create a UN Agency for Women.
VSO has consistently heard back from its volunteers that women’s inequality is holding back progress on reducing poverty. Despite advances in gender equality, discrimination still holds back millions of women from fulfilling their potential.
The United Nations system is currently failing women by fragmenting responsibility for improving their situation across a number of small, poorly funded bodies.
This International Women’s Day, VSO asks you to take action and ask the UN to make a real change to women's lives. Act now at www.vso.org.uk/women.
