Launch of 3rd 'why women?' report

WRC have launched their latest report in the ‘why women?’ campaign. The report, Not just bread, but roses, too maps women’s organisations across all of the English regions. We’ve looked at the areas organisations work in, the equalities strands they focus on and have tracked income and expenditure data for 2004 to 2007. One of the key findings is that 1 in 5 women's organisations became inactive during 2004-7.

You can download the report, hot off the press, to read about the research and its key findings in full.

Valuing the BME Third Sector campaign

Voice4Change England has launched its Valuing the BME Third Sector campaign to increase recognition of the vital contribution made by BME organisations to civil society and they need your support in promoting this to MPs.

The BME Third Sector does a fantastic job in delivering services that meet the needs of marginalised communities and build equality, but this contribution often goes unnoticed and frequently unappreciated. Therefore Alun Michael MP has put down an Early Day Motion in the House of Commons to raise awareness of the role of the Sector and to highlight some of the crucial issues it faces.

To help V4CE develop the campaign outside Parliament they need individuals and organisations to contact their local MP to request they support the EDM. Don't know who your MP is? Find out here.

£1.6 million for Rape Crisis Centres and The Survivors Trust

Harriet Harman, Minister for Women and Equality, has announced £1.6 million for Rape Crisis Centres and The Survivors Trust members across England and Wales. This is in addition to £1.1 million of emergency funding for rape crisis centres announced last March.

You can find out more about the issues affecting the sector from our Crisis in Rape Crisis campaign.

Fawcett report on women and the recession

The Fawcett Society has released a new report which calls on the government to take urgent action to counter the impact of the recession on women. It documents how women have entered this recession on an unequal economic footing that makes them particularly vulnerable to the downturn and sets out a five point plan that promotes women’s rights and economic recovery.

And Finally...

Some new resources

The development team at WRC have been hard at work collecting together useful resources for groups in relation to sustainable funding and these have taken the form of a funding directory and signposting guide. These will be followed with more additions in the near future, so watch this space!

The Centre for Charity Effectiveness at the Cass Business School in London have launched a new website for not-for-profit organisations. KnowHow NonProfit brings together information and resources to help charities, social enterprises and other organisations to learn, develop and succeed.

Womensviewsonnews.org is a new online news and current affairs service aimed at women and they are looking for writers from around the world to provide them their news stories. Why not take a look at what others have written and perhaps even write something yourself?
